I do really hope the Slate does well. It seems like the right truck for people who have a lot of customized needs. It's going to be a great service truck for cities.

My biggest problem was to get the rear seats it would take up bed space. For me, as a cargo-carrying user, that deletes the utility of the truck bed. I also really like having the crew cab since there's times where I'm carrying stuff that needs to be in a temperature-controlled environment. (The frunk probably isn't cooled, and even a covered bed just won't do.)

I was quite early to reserve the Slate, but over time, I've come to think it's a bit too basic. I really like the styling, the regular cab is great for me, and the 5' bed is a great size. But no power windows, no basic stereo, etc, is just too stripped down for me. I know the beauty of the Slate is that I can add what I want and leave out the rest, but after getting the larger battery, power windows, speakers, a head unit, etc, I'll likely be at (or above) price parity with Ford's UEV pickup.

With this price leak, I find myself wondering what price would make the Slate Truck work for me. I'm not going to be in the market for a new truck until sometime next year, at which point we'll have more information about the UEV pickup/Ranchero.

Before the UEV pickup was announced, I was 100% all in on a Slate. But I was always going to go for the long range pack, and a few other add ons; power windows, speakers, and a DIY double DIN head unit. Knowing the price of a blank Slate now, this would likely put me around $32-34K out the door, including tax, title, and fees.

Obviously we don't know what the UEV pickup will start at, but assuming $30K (which is a tough assumption, I understand) that makes the UEV pickup a no brainer to me. I really hope Slate is a success though. I love what they're doing, and I love the styling of their pickup too.
