Scout EV is not dead, but it has faced significant production delays and a major strategy shift.

Originally envisioned as a pure EV brand, parent company Volkswagen shifted priority to Extended-Range Electric Vehicles (EREVs) because the vast majority of preorders requested a built-in gas generator.

Scout is navigating several key updates:

Production Delays: The initial launch timeline has been pushed back. Current reports indicate production for the Scout Traveler SUV is delayed until late 2028, with the Terra pickup pushed into 2030

The "Harvester" EREV: Over 85% of early preorders are for the "Harvester" EREV models rather than the pure EV versions. This setup features an electric motor driven by the battery, paired with a small gas engine that acts as a generator to extend the driving range past 500 miles.

Pricing & Specs: Scout aims for a starting MSRP under $60,000

The vehicles are being built at a new $2 billion manufacturing facility in Blythewood, South Carolina.
